Abrasion Tests

Our abrasion test benches generate wear against abrasive paper. The wear mechanism is 2-Body-Abrasion. The strength of these test benches is the high repeatability of the results. At LOM we developed a special weighing at cleaning routine which enables us to exceed the requirements according to the standards.

Applications

Pin Abrasion Tester – ASTM G132

On the pin abrasion test rig, the specimen moves radially on a grinding plate.

Standard:  ASTM G132

Load:  1-2.5 MPa

Sample moving speed:  0.001-0.1 m/sec, radial

Sample moving distance:  80 mm per cycle with automatic lift off

Load:  Not specified

Disc rotation speed:  0-50 rpm

Results:  Weight loss

Existing Conversions:  Unit for lower forces

Note:  The given parameters are according to ASTM Standard. Others on request.

Taber Abraser Tester – ASTM F1978

At the taber abraser test bench, the specimen rotates on a rotating grinding wheel.

Standard:  ASTM F1978

Load:  2,5 N

Sample moving speed:  Fixed, turing

Sample moving distance:  0.24 m per cycle/rotation

Disc rotation speed:  60 or 72 rpm

Results:  Weight loss

Existing Conversions:  Fixed sample vs. abrasive paper. The taber abraser test is used for such standard applications e.g. abrasion resistance for coatings.

Note:  The given parameters are according to ASTM Standard. Others on request.
